Nayagarh: A man was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl under Fategarh police limits in the district.
Pronouncing the judgment for the crime that took place in 2019 , a fast-track POCSO court awarded the punishment to the culprit Jitendra Maharana. The court also directed the District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) to provide financial aid of Rs 1.5 lakh to the survivor’s family.
In April, 2019, Jitendra took the minor girl to an isolated place on pretext of giving her a lift to her house in his vehicle and later raped her. Few villagers had later rescued the girl and admitted her to a hospital in critical condition.
Besides, the locals had detained and thrashed the culprit for his crime before handing him over to police.
