Cuttack: The Special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court judge Subash Kumar Behari was found dead at his official quarters at CDA Sector-9 in Odisha’s Cuttack City on Friday.
According to sources, the judge had been on a leave since Wednesday and was scheduled to join office this morning. He telephoned and sought an extension of leave for one more day. However, the 49-year-old judge was later found unconscious and was rushed to the private hospital, where doctor declared him dead.
“We have no idea about what exactly happened to him. We received information that he is unwell about half an hour before and was admitted to Aswini hospital,” a senior advocate told the media.
It is suspected that Behari, who lived with his wife and two daughters, might have committed suicide.
“Circumstantial evidence hints at suicidal hanging. The rope has been recovered from spot and it will be sent for examination. Further investigation will reveal the reason for death,” ACP Tapas Pradhan told a local news channel.
No one was present in the house at the time of the incident, the ACP added.
