Cuttack: A POCSO Court has sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years for rape of a minor girl in Odisha’s Cuttack city.
As per the case, the man, identified as Gopal Singh of Madhupatana in the city had raped the girl in 2019. The man is the maternal grandfather of the girl. Following a complaint filed by the girl’s parents, Madhupatana police had arrested Singh and later, filed the chargesheet in the court.
After hearing the witnesses and verifying the evidence, the Fast Track Special POCSO Court convicted Singh in the case and sentenced him to 20-year rigorous imprisonment (RI). The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict and ordered that he has to undergo rigorous imprisonment for six months more if he fails to pay the fine.
The POCSO Court directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Cuttack to pay a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the victim girl.
In another incident in April this year, one person was arrested for rape of a girl in a hotel room in Madhupatana. The arrested man is an employee of the hotel.
