POCSO Court Sentences Man To 25-Year RI For Rape Of Minor Daughter In Odisha’s Balasore

Balasore: A POCSO Court has sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment for 25 years for rape of his minor daughter in Odisha’s Balasore district.

As per the case, the victim’s mother had lodged a complaint against her husband Fagu Marandi at Singla police station on August 6. She alleged that Fagu raped their 13-year-old daughter while she was away from their hose in Singla area under Basta block of the district.

Acting on the complaint, the police started investigation and arrested Fagu. Later, the police filed the chargesheet against Fagu in the court.

Judge Ranjan Kumar Sutar of Special POCSO Court in Balasore heard the statements of 12 witnesses and verified 28 exhibits related to the case.

The court convicted Fagu under the POCSO Act convicted and sentenced him to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him. On failure to pay the penalty, the court ordered the convict to undergo two more years of imprisonment.

The court also directed the district legal services authority to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim.
