Bargarh: A special POCSO court in Odisha’s Bargarh has sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment for seven years for forcefully disrobing and assaulting a minor girl at Attabira in the district four years ago.
The Court of the Additional Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge, POCSO, Bargarh pronounced the jail term and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on convict Karan alias Karun for the crime committed in 2021.
The Court ordered the punishment under Section 354-B of the IPC and Section 10 of the POCSO Act. Additionally, he was awarded two years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 506 of the IPC.
The Court also directed the District Legal Services Authority to provide a compensation of Rs three lakh to the victim under the Victim Compensation Scheme.
The case was investigated by Investigating Officer Sushama Pasayat, while Additional Public Prosecutor Dyutish Acharya conducted the prosecution.
Officials said the conviction reflects the determination of law enforcement and the judiciary in ensuring justice for survivors of crimes against women and children.
