Dhenkanal: Police have arrested two ‘supari’ (contract) killers for the alleged murder of a businessman in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
Speaking to media persons, here on Monday, Dhenkanal SP Gyana Ranjan Mohapatra said Nirakar Sahu, the businessman of Kamakshayanagar in the district, was killed by the two contract killers on the direction of Dibyadarshan Mahanta for revenge.
Nirakar and his accomplices had murdered Dibyadarshan’s father Dipak Kumar Mahanta, a BJD leader and former panchayat samiti members of the area, due to political rivalry in 2021. Police had arrested Nirakar and sent him to jail in the murder case.
The SP said since then, Dibyadahrshan had been planning to take revenge on Nirakar for his father’s murder and contacted the ‘supari’ killers, Rakesh Nath and Deba Barji. While Rakesh belongs to Alatuma village under Kamakshyanagar police limits, Deba is from Dumadihi under Jamada police station in Mayurbhanj district.
Dibyadahrshan had paid Rs 6 lakh to the two persons for carrying out execution of Nirakar. After Nirakar came out of the jail on bail, Rakesh and Deba shot Nirakar to death near railway overbridge at Alatuma on the night of September 27.
Following this, the police had arrested Dibyadarshan on October 26. After Dibyadarshan gave the details of the contract killers to the police during questioning, the latter were in search of Rakesh and Deba and carried out raids at several places.
Finally, on the basis of reliable information, the police traced Rakesh and Deba in Jamada and arrested them during a raid on Monday, the SP said.
