Paralakhemundi: Odisha Police has arrested 4 persons for allegedly duping jobless youths by promising them to provide employment in Indian Navy.
Speaking to media persons on Saturday, Gajapati district SP Jayram Satpathy said one of the victims, Asish Kumar Pradhan, had filed a complaint at Paralakhemundi police station stating he was duped by one Rahul Vinod Kumar.
Asish alleged that Rahul, the main accused, contacted him by introducing himself as an officer serving in Indian Navy. Rahul also sent some his social media pictures showing him in the uniform of Naval officer. He promised Asish of employing him in the Indian Navy and demanded Rs 50,000 for the purpose.
Asish contacted some of his friends and each of them made the payment through digital process as well cash totalling Rs 12 lakh to Rahul. As the unemployed youths did not get appointment letter several days after making the payment, they tried to contact Rahul on the phone number provided by him but failed, the SP said.
Acting on the complaint filed by Asish, Paralakhemundi police conducted investigation and came to know about involvement of three others in the fraud.
The SP said a team from the police station arrested all the four accused from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The team also recovered 6 uniforms of Indian Navy officers, mobile phones, bank passbooks, duplicate appointment letters and Aadhaar cards sized from their possession.
