Guwahati: In a shocking tale of events, Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) Assam topper has been arrested for using a proxy to appear for the examination.
The candidate Neel Nakshatra Das, his doctor father Dr Jyotirmoy Das, and three employees of a testing centre, Hamendra Nath Sarma, Pranjal Kalita and Hirukamal Pathak were arrested by the Assam police after a complaint was lodged.
The complaint was lodged by Mitradev Sharma on October 23 alleging that the candidate did not appear for the test held on September 5 and someone else wrote the examination on his behalf at a centre in Guwahati.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been informed about the same by the Assam Police who caught the five accused in the cheating scam.
Neel Nakshatra Das topped JEE Main 2020 from Assam by scoring 99.8 per cent. He is accused of using unfair means to score the highest marks. Apparently, a phone call recording went viral on social media in which the candidate seems to have confessed to using unfair means to crack the exams.
