Puri: Police have arrested an inter-state gang of mobile thieves near Sun Temple at Konark in Odisha’s Puri district on Sunday.
According to sources, the gang was active at the world-famous Sun Temple to target the international tourists. On the day, a group of NRIs from the US and outside state visited the temple.
Taking advantage of the Sunday crowd, the gang looted 7 mobile phones from the visitors. As soon as they realised theft of their mobile phones, Dr Garima Gupta and Sneha and others filed a complaint at Konark police station.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, a police team led by ASI Santosh Kumar Sahu conducted raids at different places near the temple. They apprehended three women thieves from outside the state in front of the Sun Temple and recovered three stolen mobile phones from them, said IIC Purna Chandra Sethi.
Three others, including two men and a woman, managed to escape in an auto-rickshaw. However, the police team gave a chase and intercepted the auto-rickshaw near Ramchandi. The police found four stolen mobile phones from their possession and arrested them.
