Puri: Police on Saturday arrested six members of a family for their alleged involvement in a suspected honour killing case in the district.
According to sources, an 18-year-old girl from a village under Chandanpur police limits had allegedly committed suicide two days back. Her family members cremated her without informing the police. Following the information about it, police arrested the girl’s brother, uncles and cousins.
Speaking to media, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Kishore Mund said preliminary investigation reveals that the girl committed suicide on March 20 and her family cremated her the same night.
The sources said the girl had informed the family about her wish to marry a youth of her village with whom she was in a relationship for some time. But her family had been opposing her.
Police have collected the skeletal remains of the girl from the cremation ground and registered a case.
