Balasore: A wanted criminal was arrested after five-hour stand-off with police in the district on Sunday.
With a well-planned strategy to arrest Eeshwar Mahalika, who is wanted in several criminal cases, a joint team of Remuna and Shahdevkhunta police surrounded his house at Shyamraipur early in the morning. Mahalika had earlier managed to evade arrest by attacking the police with stones and bottles several times.
This time also, as the police arrived, he started throwing stones and empty liquor bottles from inside his house. Repeated appeals of police to Mahalika to surrender were responded by stone-pelting.
As the police personnel stuck to their ground and did not budge from their positions, Mahalika hurled three country-made bombs at them. While one bomb exploded, the other two were dead. However, nobody was injured in the explosion.
After around five hours of stand-off, Mahalika gave up and surrendered to police.
