Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday apprehended an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police posted at B Singhpur in Koraput district and another person for allegedly accepting Rs 40,000 as bribe.
The accused were identified as ASI Narasingha Dora Sunadhara Amanatya, a private person. They were nabbed while demanding and taking Rs 40,000 from a complainant to help him in a domestic violence case of which Dora was the Investigating Officer.
The ASI was allegedly threatening the complainant to take strong action against those involved in the case if he failed to pay the bribe amount of Rs 40,000.
As the complainant was unable to pay the demanded bribe, he approached vigilance authorities. Following this, a team of Vigilance nabbed Dora and Amanatya while taking Rs 40,000 from the complainant. The entire tainted bribe money has been recovered and seized from them.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of ASI Dora on Disproportionate Assets angle. A case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
