Bhubaneswar: Vigilance arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police on bribe charge in Odisha’s Khurda district on Friday.
Following a complaint by a person and his son that Bhagaban Swain, ASI in Bolagarh police station was demanding undue advantage (bribe) of Rs 6,000 from them to help in a case registered earlier in the police station, the Vigilance laid a trap.
As per the plan, the Vigilance officials caught the ASI red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant near taxi stand of Bolagarh Bazaar. The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Swain and seized in presence of witnesses.
Following the trap, the Vigilance conducted a search on the residential house of Swain at his village Dulanpur under Banki police limits in Cuttack district. The ASI has been arrested and will be forwarded to the court.
Bhubaneswar Vigilance has registered a case under PC Act, 1988 in this connection and further investigation is on.
