Bhubaneswar: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance officials at Birmaharajpur in Sonepur district on Tuesday for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 6,000 to release a seized motorcycle in an accident case.
The accused, identified as ASI Budu Bhoi of Birmaharajpur Police Station, was caught while demanding and taking bribe of Rs 6,000/- from a complainant to release his motorcycle seized in an accident case.
The complainant had been requesting the ASI to release his motorcycle for the last one month but Bhoi was demanding Rs 6,000/-. He approached the Vigilance Authority narrating his harassment.
Accordingly, the Vigilance team nabbed the accused ASI while taking the bribe from the complainant. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of Bhoi and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going at two locations of Bhoi from disproportionate assets angle. A case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
