Bhubaneswar: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance officials on Sunday for allegedly accepting Rs 2,000 bribe from a man threatening to entangle his cousin in a case.
The ASI was identified as Bijaya Kumar Bhanja, posted in Niali Police Station in Cuttack district.
The ASI had called the complainant on Saturday and asked him to pay the demanded bribe amount. Finding no other way, the complainant reported the matter to Vigilance Authority.
Accordingly, Vigilance officials laid a trap and nabbed Bhanja on Sunday while accepting bribe from the complainant. The entire bribe money has been recovered from Sri Bhanja and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Bhanja from Disproportionate Assets angle.
In this connection, a case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
