Rayagada: Police bust a country-made gun manufacturing unit and arrested three persons in this regard in the district on Tuesday.
Speaking to media persons, OIC of Gunupur police station Yaswant Hial said they came to know about the gun-making unit after arrest of a person for alleged possession of arms without licence.
Acting on reliable information, the police conducted a raid on Ukumba village under Gunupur police station and seized one single barrel country-made pistol, three ammunitions, one big knife from the possession of Debadurllabha Mohapatra of the village and arrested him.
During interrogation, Mohapatra revealed that Trinath Bindhani and Bhabagrahi Bindhani of Chakapada village in Kandhamal district were manufacturing country-made pistols and selling those at a high price. Mahapatra had purchased the pistol from them, he confessed.
The police conducted raid on the gun manufacturing unit at Chakapada
and arrested both Trinath and Bhabagrahi.
The OIC said the police also seized 2 rifles, one pistol, a revolver, two wooden frame of rifle, three ammunitions, manufacturing machineries and accessories from the place. Further investigation was going on to ascertain involvement of any other persons in the racket.
