Puri: Five members of a gang of dacoits were arrested when they were planning a major theft in Mangala Ghat Square in Odisha’s Puri district on Wednesday.
The plan of the gang members to commit a major robbery was foiled as the Baseli Sahi police received a tip-off regarding their move. The police came to know that the looters had assembled at a hideout to give final shape to their plan, a senior police official said.
A police team carried out a raid at the hideout when the gang members were preparing to execute their plan in an under-construction house.
Five members of the gang were arrested from the site. The police also seized two sharp weapons, two iron rods, two torches, and two bombs from their possession.
The arrested dacoits were identified as Dibina Behera, Mahaveer Behera, Manoj Kumar Barik, Subash Behera, and Rakesh Behera.
