Cuttack: Police busted an illegal unit, producing ghee with harmful chemicals, and detained its owner in Odisha’s Cuttack city on Thursday.
According to police sources, the inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Jagatpur police station received informed information from reliable sources about the unit in Jagatpur New Industrial Estate in the city. They informed food safety officer and health officer about the unit.
A team comprising personnel from the police station and Health officials of the Cuttack Municipal Corportation (CMC) conducted a raid on the unit. During the raid, the team found a huge amount of adulterated ghee and the equipment to prepare it.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the unit was manufacturing duplicate ghee with artificial essence and harmful vanaspati. It was selling the product in the name of ‘Bal Gopal Ghee’, the sources said.
The police detained the unit’s owner and started investigation.
