Berhampur: Acting tough on the people violating the mandatory norm of wearing masks in public places as part of COVID-19 protocols, police imposed fine on 310 violators in the city on Thursday.
In a tweet, Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra said the police collected penalty amounting to Rs 76,000 from the violators of COVID-19 guidelines. Besides, Rs 62,000 was collected for flouting traffic rules.
The state government has made it mandatory for all people to wear face masks of any type while going out of their houses for any purpose. Ganjam being the hotspot district for COVID-19, the authorities are enforcing it strictly.

In a bid to combat the deadly coronavirus, police are trying their best to make people understand the importance of the COVID norms. Besides imposing fine on the people, they are promoting awareness about the rules.
Police have repeatedly appealed to the city residents to walk to local markets for buying essentials. They said there is no shortage of vegetables and groceries and people should not believe in rumour.
