Police Complaint Filed Against TN Minister Udayanidhi Stalin In Odisha’s Sonepur

Sonepur: A case has been filed against minister and DMK MLA of Tamil Nadu Udayanidhi Stalin at Sonepur police station in Odisha over his controversial remarks against “Sanatan Dharma”.

Speaking to media persons after filing the complaint on Monday, former BJP leaders Baladev Prasad Vedvak and Balaram Singh said the statements of Stalin comparing Sanatan religion with diseases like dengue and malaria are highly condemnable.

“It is deplorable that being a responsible leader and son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Udayanidhi was inciting religious intolerance in the society. It is unbecoming on the part of the legislator to speak against the religion of majority population of the country,” he said.

Stating that Udayanidhi had committed a criminal offence, Vedvak said they had filed the complaint urging the police to register a criminal case against Tamil Nadu leader. If the police fail to initiate any action, he threatened to approach the court against Udayanidhi.

It may be noted that Udayanidhi, who is DMK youth wing secretary and Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare Minister, had alleged at a meeting on Saturday that Sanatan was against equality and social justice. He had likened it to coronavirus, malaria, dengue and mosquitoes.

His remarks evoked sharp reactions from different sections of the society across the country. The BJP has taken a strong exception to the comments alleging that it was a call for genocide and demanded Udayanidhi to be booked for treason.
