Bhubaneswar: A police constable was arrested on Wednesday for alleged sexual exploitation of a minor girl in Odisha capital.
As per the FIR filed by the victim, constable Rajanikant Gamango posted at Lingaraj police station in the city has been sexually abusing her since she was 13 years of age. The policeman had also made video recording of his sexual act with the girl for the last 4 years.
Gomango was forcing the girl to keep physical relation with him by blackmailing her to upload the video in social media, if she did not agree. He also told her to pay Rs 50,000 to delete the video.
The girl had not told anybody about the exploitation out of fear for getting socially maligned. When the situation went out of control, she reported the matter to Childline. With the support of Childline, the girl lodged an FIR at Mahila police station on Tuesday, said Benudhar Senapati, director, Childline, Bhubaneswar.
A team from Mahila police station led by its IIC arrested the accused while he was on duty and seized the electronics devices from his house. The intervention was done with the supervision of DCP and ACP Zone I.
The statement of the girl has been recorded at police station and court and her medical examination conducted. The Mahila Police has forwarded to Gomango to court.
