Paralakhemundi: A police constable has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman on false promise of marriage in Mohana area of Odisha’s Gajapati district.
The accused, identified as Trinath Sahu, was reportedly working as a constable in Mohana police station. He has been reportedly booked on charge of rape and other offences.
The incident came to light after the woman lodged a complaint against the constable accusing him of making false promise of marriage, maintaining a physical relationship against her consent, and threatening her with dire consequences.
The woman alleged that the policeman breached the trust reposed in him as a law enforcement officer. He was accused of using his position to establish a physical relationship with the woman and later resorting to threats when she objected.
Based on the complaint, the police have taken the constable into custody and launched an investigation. Further detail are awaited.
