Rayagada: A newly-wed woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her in-laws’ house in Gunupur area of Odisha’s Rayagada district on Monday.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place in Ganesh Vihar area under the jurisdiction of Gunpur police station in the district. The deceased has been identified as Rashmi Ranjani, daughter of Kunja Bihari Badakumar of Parlakhemundi in Gajapati.
Sources said the woman died barely eight months after her marriage to police constable Debashish Majhi, a resident of Chandrapur village in Rayagada district. The woman was found dead under mysterious conditions, locals said.
Following the incident, Rashmi Ranjan’s father, Kunja Bihari lodged a complaint with the Gunupur police, alleging that his daughter was subjected to dowry harassment by her in-laws. He claimed that Rashmi was working as a postal employee and was well-settled in her career.
On being informed, a police team visited the site and launched an investigation into the incident. They have sent the body to the Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact reason behind the death.
A scientific team from Rayagada is expected to arrive soon to assist in the investigation. Further details are awaited.
