New Delhi: Police detained prolific Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg in The Hague, the Netherlands, on Saturday.
Thunberg and other protesters were put in a large bus by local police for trying to block a major highway leading to The Hague.
Hundreds of activists tried to block the A12 highway when they were joined by Thunberg.
To prevent more people from assembling, police decided to take Thunberg and the other protesters in their custody.
Local police didn’t immediately comment on their next course of action.
This is not the first time that the A12 highway has been blocked. Activists in big numbers gathered at this important road for several hours dozens of times in recent months.
Their primary demand has been to end all subsidies for the use of fossil fuels.
At previous protests, police forced protesters to move to another part of town, where they were released unconditionally.
The 21-year-old Thunberg has been a crusader against climate and environment abuse since she was in her early teens.
