Nabarangpur: Police have detained a trader from Odisha for carrying unaccountable cash in poll-bound Chhattisgarh.
With code of conduct in force in Chhattisgarh due to Assembly elections, security has been tightened along its border areas. In order to check illegal cash flow into the state, Dhamtari additional SP has issued direction to strictly check the vehicles on the border with Odisha.
As per the direction, a police team led by the SDPO was checking the vehicles at Borai border post. While checking a car coming from Raighar in Nabarangpur district of Odisha, the police team found Rs 10 lakh in possession of its owner identified as Subrat Mandal of Bhatasundhi village under Raighar police limits. He was driving the car.
Borai IIC Rajesh Jagat told the media that the vehicle bearing registration number CG 04 MS 1627 was going to Raipur. “During inspection of the car, the police found 20 bundles of Rs 500 notes inside it. When asked about its source, Mandal could not give any satisfactory answer nor produce document for carrying the money,” he said.
Following this, the police have seized the money and the car and detained Mandal for further questioning, the sources said.
