Jajpur: Police have detained a school headmaster in Odisha’s Jajpur district for allegedly duping four persons of Rs 51 lakh on the plea of employing them in the Indian Railways.
According to police sources, Jyoti Ranjan Samal, sports teacher of Krushna Prasad High School at Katia under Dasarthpur police limits in the district, had assured Ramesh Mohanty and 3 others of providing jobs in the Railways. Samal told them that it would require a certain amount of money.
As asked by him, Ramesh and three others gave him total Rs 51 lakh. Though a long time passed after giving the money, the aspirants did not get the employment letters. When they tried to contact Samal to return their money, he remained untraced.
Realising that they had been cheated, Ramesh and others filed a complaint at Dasarthpur police station against Samal.
Following investigation into the complaint, the police detained Samal and were questioning him, said Badrikanath Behera, IIC of the police station.
