Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed in a slum in Bhubaneswar as a police team was detained by its residents during a raid late Friday night.
As per reports, the team from Badagada police station had gone to conduct the raid on the slum at Goutam Bagar in the city to arrest one Rama Chandra Sahu, an accused in a murder case.
As the police arrived in the slum and knocked on the door Rama’s house, the neighbours and other residents opposed them. The slum-dwellers took exception to late night raid by police.
The wife of the accused said she was staying alone with her children in the house while her husband was doing business elsewhere. “What is the reason of harassing us at midnight in a six-year-old case? The police could come during the day to ask me about my husband,” she said.
As the stand-off continued and tension prevailed in the area, local corporator rushed to the slum and talked to the police. Following the discussion, the police left the place.
As the corporator claimed that Rama had been granted bail and his lawyer would produce the court order in this regard, police returned from the slum, police sources said.
