Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police registered 61 cases of drunken driving during a checking drive in Bhubaneswar on Saturday night.
As part of its “Safe City Drive”, the Commissionerate Police put up blockades and carried out breath analyser test in strategic areas under its all police stations throughout the night. DCP Bhubaneswar, DCP Traffic, ACP Traffic, IICs, 15 platoons of police and 50 traffic personnel participated in the drive.
During the drive, the police teams checked the vehicles and conducted the test on the drivers. The drivers of as many as 61 vehicles were found driving after consumption of alcohol. Out of those vehicles, 47 were cars including a Mercedes and the rest two-wheelers and auto-rickshaws.
The Commissionerate Police has registered cases against all the vehicles and will forward those to court. It has also recommended to Regional Transport Office (RTO) for suspension of driving licence of the drivers who were found driving after drinking.
