Sambalpur: Police recovered huge quantity of ganja and a few bombs from an SUV in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Monday.
According to sources, while a police van was patrolling near Khinda village under Thelkoloi limits of the district, they found the SUV was parked beside the road and two people were engaged in changing its flat tyre. As the police van approached the vehicle, they ran away into a forest nearby.
On checking the SUV, the police found huge quantity of ganja in several packets in the luggage space behind the passenger seat of the vehicle. On further search, they also found around 4 bombs from inside the SUV.
The police informed the bomb squad who identified those as country-made bombs and later, diffused those at a safe distance.
As the police also recovered two fake car registration plates from the vehicle, they suspected that the persons who escaped were part of an inter-state ganja smuggling racket. The police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to trace the two persons, the sources said.
