Bhubaneswar: Police arrested eight dacoits and foiled their attempt to hijack a car due to alertness of the driver in Boudh district on Sunday.
According to sources, the dacoits in the garb of travellers booked the car from a travel agency, here to go to Balangir on Saturday. On the way, they told the driver, Jitendra Nayak, at gun-point to drive towards Boudh.
Finding a right opportunity, Jitendra messaged vehicle owner Ranjib Kumar Guru that he was in trouble and asked him not to call.
After Ranjib approached the police for help, the latter tracked Jitendra’s mobile on GPS and came to know that the vehicle was crossing Patnagarh. On being informed, Purunacuttack Police in Boudh placed barricades and when the hijacked vehicle arrived, they rescued the driver and nabbed the hijackers.
During search of the vehicle, the police recovered a pistol and other weapons.
