Berhampur: A youth allegedly attempted suicide by pouring kerosene on his body in front of the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) office in Odisha’s Berhampur city in Ganjam district on Monday.
However, police personnel on duty at the SP office rescued the youth before he could set himself on fire and prevented an untoward incident, sources said.
The youth has been identified as Prashant Sethi of Jhada Ankuli village under Sadar police limits in the district.
While the exact reason behind the move is yet to be ascertained, the youth was stated to have demanded the arrest of some more persons in connection with the murder of his father in 2021. Five people had been arrested in the case earlier.
The youth has been detained at Baidyanathpur police station after being rescued, the sources added.
