Dhenkanal: Police saved a woman while she was allegedly attempting self-immolation in front of district collector’s office in Odisha’s Dhenkanal on Friday.
According to sources, the woman, identified as Kamala Jena of Balarampur village under Dhenkanal Sadar police limits, had sought police help for finding a solution to a property dispute with her relatives. She had filed a complaint in this regard at Sadar police station in December last year.
As the police did not initiate any steps on her complaint, Kamala had approached the district SP and submitted an application in his office also. But no police action was taken to help her.
Frustrated by the dispute at one hand and the police inaction on the other, Kamala went to the office of the district collector and tried to commit self-immolation. As she poured kerosene on herself and was about to set fire, the police present there rushed to her and prevented her from commiting the act.
The police also seized the bottle of kerosene, a matchbox and a bottle of poison from her possession. They have registered a case and launched an investigation.
