Bhubaneswar: Keonjhar police on Saturday froze the bank accounts of
Champua MLA Sanatan Mahakud having deposits worth Rs 165 crore.
The legislator deposited the money in five banks.
The move came after the manager and two other employees of IndusInd
Bank’s Joda branch in Keonjhar district were arrested for transporting
Rs 50 lakh in cash in a car to the MLA’s house without proper
documents.
Bank manager Manas Rout, sales officer Saroj Behera and gunman
Sanatana Pradhan were arrested following the seizure.
In January 9, supporters of Mahakud’s organisation Sana Sena
allegedly torched the office of Debapriya Patra, son of school and
mass education Minister Badri Narayan Patra, in Anandpur area of the
district.
Sanatan was one of the few independents in the state who won the 2014 assembly polls.
