Puri: In the wake of Monday night’s explosion at Balanga police station, Inspector General of Police Narasingha Bhol Tuesday visited the blast site to study the extent of damage even as a scientific team is engaged in the investigation.
The scientific team has been looking into the causes of explosion report of which would be available soon, said Bhol and suggested that some explosive material seized and stored in the godown of the station might have caused the explosion.
Seized explosive material should have been defused first and those responsible for dereliction of duty would not be spared, Bhol added.
Significantly, there was no one in the station at the time of the explosion. But the blast caused severe damage to the station building constructed way back in 1988. Pipili sub-divisional police officer who visited the spot soon after the incident suggested that the crackers stored in the godown might have caused the blast as a result of an electric short-circuit.
