Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has imposed restrictions on engaging bouncers in bars in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack cities.
In a notification on Monday, Commissioner of Police Sanjeeb Kumar Panda said the Commissionerate Police had received several complaints from customers that the bouncers posed threat to their lives. Considering the safety and security of the customers, a set of guidelines, including the conditions for appointment of private security, has been issued for the bars.
“It has come to the notice of Commissionerate Police that many bars under its jurisdiction have employed private persons as security personnel who are informally called bouncers. In recent months, some criminal cases have been registered against many such private security personnel. It is apprehended that there is every probability of imminent danger from these bouncers to the life and safety of the customers resulting in a breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquility,” the notification stated.
“Such unwarranted threats to the life and safety of customers as well as breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquility need to be prevented to deter the said illegal activities,” it added.
The Commissionerate Police has sought compliance of the guidelines from the Bar owners within two months.
