Bhubaneswar: In order to check sound pollution by the bikes with high-decibel horns and modified silencer pipes, the Commissionerate Police has warned the bike owners of stern action and issued a WhatsApp number for the public to file complaint.
Bhubaneswar DCP Uma Shankar Dash told the media that they took the step following complaints that some people were creating sound pollution in residential areas, particularly during the rallies for elections to civic bodies in the twin cities.
They pointed out that during the bike rallies taken out by different political parties and other candidates, some bikers were using horns of very high decibel and modified smoke exhaust pipes to create high sound. It was not only creating disturbances but also posing threat to patients with cardiac and blood pressure complaints, they added.
Dash said in order to check the nuisance, they have launched a special drive against such bikers and seized 11 bikes for violating RTO Act. As per the Act, any bike producing sound of horns or silencer of more than 80 decibels is illegal.
He further said the Commissionerate Police is monitoring the rallies through CCTV cameras and has deployed PCR units to keep a watch on the participants.
Besides, anybody can file a complaint in this regard or any traffic violation with the police on WhatsApp number 8039028107, the DCP said.
On a cautionary note, he told the bikers to refrain from such illegal acts, otherwise they would face stringent actions.
