Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Monday launched an app called SARAI to crack incidents of drug peddling and street crimes in the state capital.
Commissioner of Police Soumendra Priyadarshi said it is usually found that drug peddlers from other areas make deals on brown sugar and other narcotics at hotels and lodging houses in Bhubaneswar.
Therefore, the SARAI app has been made mandatory for all such places to keep daily tabs on the guests.
The top cop stated that the objective is to make Bhubaneswar a drug-free city and police have also launched Operation White Spider in this regard.
Priyadarshi further said the SARAI app will also help in curbing street crimes.
“We have found that most street crimes in Bhubaneswar are perpetrated by youths living in slum areas and most of them are drug addicts,” the CP said.
Police have also launched a “basti Chalo Abhiyan” to keep an eye on street crimes, he added.
