Bhubaneswar: In a major drive against violation of traffic rules, the Commissionerate Police has taken legal action against more than 100 offenders in Bhubaneswar.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pinak Mishra said the drive has been launched against use of modified silencers in motorcycles, drunken driving, jumping the traffic signals and not wearing helmets.
The DCP said during the checking on Monday, over 100 bike silencers were seized along with bikes. The bike owners, who have been found using the modified silencers illegally, can get back their bikes after getting the court orders, he added.
Similarly, during the drive against drunken driving on Monday night, the owners of several vehicles have been fined and their vehicles seized under the MV Act.
Mishra further said the police would carry out raids on the shops selling the prohibited silencers and the workshop preparing those silencers in future as part of the drive. The action was being taken against such vehicles as those were not only causing pollution but also posing health hazards, he added.
He also said steps were being taken to ease traffic congestion at major junctions during the peak hours in the city. More traffic officers and constables would be deployed to ensure smooth movement of the vehicles to ease the pressure on the people, he added.
