Police Launch Manhunt To Trace Accused In Rourkela Gang-Rape

Rourkela: Police have launched a manhunt to trace three miscreants who allegedly raped a woman on the outskirts of the city late Tuesday night.

The incident came to light on Wednesday after some locals during a morning walk found the woman and informed the police after she narrated the horrific incident.

Following information, the Chhend Police rushed to the spot and took the victim to the police station where she lodged a complaint.

The victim, hailing from Gurundia, about 60 km from Rourkela, in her complaint said that she had gone out of her house in the late night for nature’s call when three men wearing face masks came in two Bolero jeeps and forcibly took her near the OMFED factory behind the aerodrome field and raped her. They left the place early morning.

Talking to mediapesons on Thursday, Rourkela DSP Santa Nutan Samad said the medical examination of the victim has been conducted.

She said the victim has said she cannot recognize the miscreants as they had covered their faces with the masks. “Instructions have been given to all police stations in the district to collect detailed information about the movement of two Bolejo jeeps in their areas,” she added.
