Cuttack: Commissionerate Police have got some lead in the serial murders that had spread panic among the homeless in the Millennium City.
Police are suspecting involvement of a mentally-challenged man, who was under treatment at Department Of Psychiatry in SCB Medical College and Hospital here, in the murders.
According to sources, the suspect is a rag picker.
“We took opinion from a professor of the forensic medicine department. According to him, the crime might have been committed by a psychopath,” Twin City Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty said on Sunday.
He said that a special team led by a senior police official in Additional DCP rank is investigating the matter and the serial killer will be nabbed very soon.
Notably, the body of a middle-aged man with his head crushed was recovered at Ranihat on Tuesday morning. Two more bodies with injuries were recovered from Chauliaganj and Mangalabag areas on Wednesday morning.
All the three incidents took place between 3 am to 4 am.
Meanwhile, police have picked up a biker who had reportedly dropped one the victims at SCB Medical College and Hospital after being attacked near the OMP Square on Tuesday night. They had stumbled upon this person while verifying CCTV footage.
Apprehending police complications, the biker had dropped the 55-year-old victim on Medical Road. The victim was found dead at the spot the following morning.
“The CCTV footage shows that the third victim was actually attacked near OMP Chhak,” Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh.
This means, two of the victims were attacked at OMP Square.
Police believe the assailant may have been the same person as the postmortem reports of the three victims indicate the use of the same weapon of attack.
