Sambalpur: A day after three persons were injured in a bombing incident in Odisha’s Sambalpur, Police on Wednesday arrested a youth for allegedly hurling crude explosive devices.
The accused, identified as Abhilash Mishra (19) of Sunaripada in the town, had allegedly thrown crude bombs from a flyover near Peerbaba Chowk in Sambalpur. He has reportedly confessed to the crime and it was an act of revenge, police said, adding that there was no communal angle in the incident.
Police also seized a cycle, a white hoody t-shirt, a mobile phone, some electronic tools for preparation of pressure bomb, a scooter, shouldering machine, burnt bullet motor bike, two burnt batteries, electronic circuit, LED machine, heat gun, and a plastic handle knife from the accused.
Three persons were injured as the accused hurled country-made bombs at them from the flyover on Tuesday. The victims were standing near Pir Baba Chhak in the city by parking their motorcycle on the side of the road in the evening when the incident took place.
Tension prevailed in the area as the locals gathered at the spot. But the attackers managed to escape.
On being informed by the locals, a police team led by Sambalpur SP and IG (north) went to the spot and pacified the agitated people. The injured persons were sent to the hospital for treatment.
A platoon of police force had been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident. The police nabbed the accused after thorough investigation.
