Dholpur: Two women allegedly died in an honour killing after being hurled into a river in Rajasthan’s Dholpur district, police said on Friday, with investigators naming the victims’ father and other relatives as suspects while probing the circumstances.
Superintendent of Police Vikas Sangwan said the Sadar police received information suggesting that Bharat Lodha, a resident of Pharakpur village and father of four, had killed two of his daughters. The deaths are reported to have occurred on the night of June 11 near the Sagarpada Bridge.
“Preliminary inquiries and witness information indicate the matter involved a romantic relationship the family opposed,” Sangwan said. Preliminary investigations point to family involvement, and officers are exploring whether the case amounts to an honour kil
ling.
Police believe the women were pushed from the Sagarpada Bridge into the river, though officials emphasised the probe is ongoing and many facts remain to be confirmed.
“The Sadar Police received information raising suspicions that Bharat Lodha, a father of four, had murdered two of his daughters in Pharakpur village. Acting on this information, our teams arrived at the scene and inspected the site. Preliminary inquiries and information suggest that the matter involved a romantic relationship that the family did not approve of,” Sangwan said.
Police Examine Sequence Of Events
Investigators are working to piece together the sequence of events before the alleged crime, reviewing how the victims were brought to the location, who accompanied them and what means of transport were used.
“We are currently investigating the details related to the modus operandi, the route they chose, at what time the girls were taken to the location, what mode of vehicle was used, and the parties involved. These facts are still being verified. We are continuously working, and further investigation is underway,” Sangwan said.
Officials said the incident appears to have occurred between about 9 pm and 10 pm on June 11, a timeline that is still being corroborated. Police teams continue to collect evidence at the scene and question people linked to the case, and legal proceedings will follow the outcome of the investigation.
