Bhubaneswar: Police on Thursday questioned Soumyajeet Mohapatra, the boyfriend of software engineer Sweta Utkal Kumari, who was found hanging in a rented house at Sailashree Vihar in Bhubaneswar last month.
According to sources, Soumyajit, accompanied by his father and brother, went to Chandrasekharpur police station following summon issued to him to appear in person for questioning. The police reportedly quizzed him for several hours before submitting the chargesheet in the case, the sources said.
Sweta was found hanging in a rented house in Sailashree Vihar area under Chandrasekharpur police limits on August 21.
Police have registered a case against Soumyajeet under IPC Section 306 (offence of abetment to suicide) on the basis of the complaint lodged by Sweta’s father. Soumyajeet has approached the Orissa High Court, seeking anticipatory bail.
Sweta’s family has alleged that Soumyajeet was harassing her, which forced her to take the extreme step. She was working as a Technology Analyst at Infosys in Bhubaneswar.
Earlier, a page of Sweta’s diary and Whatsapp messages sent by her to Soumyajeet’s mother had surfaced pointing out that he had taken a huge amount from the deceased softwate engineer.
