Bhubaneswar: The Lingaraj police station here has registered a case against a woman who beat a pregnant stray dog to death in Bhubaneswar a few days ago.
According to Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo, the culprit has been booked under Sections 268 and 429 of IPC and Section 11 of Cruelty to Animal Act.
“In view of the Supreme Court’s direction on arrest during the COVID-19 pandemic, a notice has been served (to the lady) and the accused will be chargesheeted soon,” said Sahoo.
The inhuman act took place on April 21 when the woman in question, and a few other persons, mercilessly beat the pregnant stray dog with a rod.
Some animal lovers took the dog to a veterinary doctor, who managed to pull out three pups. The mother died soon while one of her puppies succumbed within a few hours.
A group of animal lovers filed a case at Lingaraj police station, demanding arrest of the woman.
