Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has decided to rope in professionals as volunteers to deal with the cyber crime in twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said they had drawn up a new plan to protect the people from cyber crime and trace the criminals.
“As part of the plan, cyber experts and professionals from software companies will work in coordination with the police to control the cyber crime. Already 25 volunteers have been engaged in the first phase,” he said.
Singh further said these volunteers will work as different teams to deal with crimes including dark web, deep fake web, fake campaign in social media. “They will also train police personnel on various aspects of cyber security and cyber crime. We are also strengthening coordination with the police of other states in this regard,” he added.
Since General Elections are scheduled after a few months, the new plan will help the police act against misinformation campaign and other issues on social media.
