Koraput: Police seized more than ten quintals of ganja from Tikarpada forest in Maoist-affected G Majhiguda panchayat under Boipariguda police limits in Odisha’s Koraput district.
According to information, some locals while passing through the forest on Saturday spotted some sacks stacked inside the forest and latger informed the Boipariguda police.
Police formed a team to investigate the matter. The team conducted a raid inside the forest and recovered 38 bags of ganja weighing 10 quintals 23 kg, suspected to be kept in the forest for smuggling purposes.
It was suspected that smugglers had hidden the ganja inside the forest for the purpose of selling the items to cannabis mafia and were waiting for a vehicle for transportation.
However, no arrest has been made in this regard. Efforts are on to nab the smugglers soon, police said.
The seized contraband items were weighed in the presence of a magistrate and subsequently produced before a court.
