Bargarh: Police have seized about 500 stolen LPG cylinders and arrested 9 persons in this connection in Odisha’s Bargarh district.
According to sources, Sidhartha Shankar Panda of Attabira in the district had lodged a police complaint that in the
intervening night of December 3-4, 2023, some unknown persons assaulted the security guard of his authorised Indane LPG godown in the town and took away 158 filled cylinders by breaking open the door.
Following the complaint, Attabira police formed 3 special teams to investigate and nab the culprits. They conducted raids at probable places and verified the movements of criminals and their complicity in the case.
On getting a tip-off, the police teams detained a vehicle loaded with gas cylinders on Monday. On verification, it was ascertained that three persons travelling in the vehicle had stolen gas cylinders from a godown in Chhattisgarh and were trying to escape to Sambalpur.
They also confessed that they were involved in several theft and dacoity cases, mostly related to gas cylinder theft in different districts of Odisha including Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Jharsuguda and Balangir.
During investigation, police seized about 500 stolen gas cylinders of different companies and arrested 9 persons including 3 receivers. All the arrested persons belong to Sambalpur district.
