Puri: After Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, police have launched a drive against the motorcycles with tampered silencers and seized 9 bikes.
Speaking to media persons on Thursday, Prasant Kumar Sahu, Puri City DSP, said they have launched a special to maintain law and order during the ongoing festive season in the town. As part of the drive, the police seized 9 motorcycles which have tampered silencers to produce high decibel sound, he added.
Stating that the drive would continue during the festivals, he said the police would keep vigil on the careless driving inside the town and the anti-social elements to enable the people to celebrate peacefully.
The DSP further said the police have registered 8 cases for drink and drive in the last 3 months. Besides, they have registered 3,0131 cases of driving without helmet, using mobile phone while driving, parking in no parking zone and violation of traffic regulations and collected penalty of Rs 16,15,500 during the period, he added.
It may be noted that the Commissionerate Police had seized 60 bikes during an enforcement drive against the tampered silencers to produce high decibel sound in Bhubaneswar on September 10.
