Bhubaneswar: Police on Thursday raided the property of a brown sugar dealer at Samantarapur, on the outskirts of the Odisha capital, and seized property worth Rs 2.34 crore.
The drug dealer has been identified as Somnath Bhujabala.
During the raid, police also recovered Rs 3.45 lakh in cash from his house.
A building worth Rs 1.10 crore, ornaments worth Rs 13.50 lakh, a shop building worth Rs 24 lakh and 11 vehicles, belonging to Bhujabala and his relative, were also unearthed. The assets constitute 1900 per cent more than his known sources of income.
“Movable and immovable assets worth around Rs 2,34,52,594 belonging to Bhujabala and his father has been confiscated,” said Khurda SP Rajkishore Dora.
He said seizing the property of such drug dealers would send across a strong message to persons engaged in the illegal trade. Strict action will be taken by all ganja and brown sugar dealers, the SP added.
Police said Bhujabala and his father are in jail in connection with the Puri Baselisahi incident.
