Puri: In its drive to make Puri a drug-free town, police have seized properties worth around Rs 1 crore of alleged drug smuggler Anirudh Jaisingh who was arrested in January.
Speaking to media persons, here on Thursday, Puri SP Dr Kanwar Vishal Singh said Jaisingh was arrested for allegedly possessing brown sugar worth Rs 14 lakh. Several drug peddling cases are pending against him in police stations of Puri and Bhubaneswar, he added.
He further said following financial investigation, police have seized movable and immovable properties of Singh in Puri. Those include a godown, 2 JCBs, a tractor, a car and gold and silver ornaments.
The SP said the documents regarding seizure of Jaisingh’s properties have been sent to Competent Authority at Kolkata for approval to auction the seized properties.
On the special drive against consumption and sale of brown sugar in Puri town, he said the Special Task Force (STF) formed for the purpose has seized around 1.39 kg of brow sugar so far this year. Besides, 21 accused including peddlers and inster-state mafia members have been arrested, he added.
Singh said the police will continue its drive in future and further intensify the steps for seizure of properties of the accused. The police have received enough support from the people who are providing information through the Whatsapp number released for the purpose. Many people have also been awarded for the information that led to nab the drug peddlers, he added.
The SP appealed to the people to help police in its drive to make Puri totally drug-free.
